Written by veisong on . Posted in Uncategorized

It is very strange that is case with similar “epic fail” from Apple all main industrial news portal posted news about such fail, but these are no so many articles about basic problem about it existence. However, it is much more scary that only tracking your location, right?!

First of all, please read the news from XDA portal and come back to continue our discussion.

We’re watching: malls track shopper’s cell phone signals

Guys from arstechnica have written good article about our near future of shopping. Read it carefully and think more about the situation.

If I lived there I would use local markers and small shops more. Really do not like such kind of “improvements” because it happens not with your confirmation, because such attitude make you obey, because you might want to drink of eat, right?

Will your computer’s “Secure Boot” turn out to be “Restricted Boot”?

Microsoft has announced that if computer makers wish to distribute machines with the Windows 8 compatibility logo, they will have to implement a measure called “Secure Boot.” However, it is currently up for grabs whether this technology will live up to its name, or will instead earn the name Restricted Boot.

When done correctly, “Secure Boot” is designed to protect against malware by preventing computers from loading unauthorized binary programs when booting. In practice, this means that computers implementing it won’t boot unauthorized operating systems — including initially authorized systems that have been modified without being re-approved.

LEMOTE company 8133 LibreNote notebook

Written by veisong on . Posted in Free Hardware

In the whole World there are no even 10 companies which manufacture 100% Free Hardware (computers mainly) for end-users, regular users. Chinese company LEMOTE is one of them, the last of the “Mohicans.” LEMOTE – a company that develops and manufactures its own processor (MIPS), motherboard for “big” and portable computers. The company develops its products with the support of the Government of the PRC, and with the support of the Committee of Development and Reform of China, China Science and technology Department.

Today we would like to tell about a new laptop, which was introduced back in October 2011 on Electronics Show in Hong Kong. The model still has an internal name “Loongson 8133 3A” (3A – marking a new 4-core processor). According to some reports from the company, the laptop will be called “LibreNote”, as the company believes that this name will fully represent the desire and real goal of “creators”.

Ekiga – really changing the way we communicate

Written by veisong on . Posted in Free Software, FSW - Internet

Computer for many people is not only good working (office) instrument anymore. Our “assistant” can replace all means of communication between people which were before. The number of video and audio calls, the volume of data they generate increasing at a pace that soon we can completely forget about the old-fashioned, but reliable land-line phones, as well as about the calls on mobile phone (via the usual operator). The most common solution now in the world is skype. People really like that it is free and easy to use for communication with family of business partners. However, not many people think what this program really is, whether it is reliable, what it does during the work, and many other aspects of the “closed” and non-free (freedom denying) skype. Most are not looking for alternatives, but for those who want to find it, I can tell you that you have just found this program – EKIGA.

Amazon Kindle extinguishes the fire of learning

Written by veisong on . Posted in defectivebydesign.org

Amazon came out with their newest line of Kindle ebook readers today, including the appropriately named “Kindle Fire”.

To quote their TV commercial: “The instruction we find in books is like fire. We fetch it from our neighbours, kindle it at home, communicate it to others, and it becomes the property of all.”

This device does not kindle that fire — it extinguishes it, with more of the same digital restrictions.
